Choosing A Cosmetic Dentist

Choosing a Cosmetic Dentist Can Be Easy With These Tips

Choosing a specialized cosmetic dentist can be a tricky decision for you to make. It is important to approach a professional that can improve your appearance by giving you a set of elegant dentals and a dazzling smile.

The fact remains that some of these procedures aren’t reversible. People face a dilemma when having to make a choice about the ideal dental professional in this regard. Make sure that you’re adept and confident about the expertise of the cosmetic dentist.

Referrals and recommendations

Seek consultation from your general dentist to get an insight into the best cosmetic dentists available in your area. With the dental expert already aware of the present condition of your teeth and gums, ideally he should be able to provide some recommendations.

Also, your relatives and friends that have already had experience with a smile makeover can offer suggestions.

Basically, inquire those that have acquired a service from cosmetic dentists in your region. Even looking for referrals on online forums and reading client testimonials of cosmetic dental professionals in the vicinity can also help in making an appropriate decision.

Investigation before pre-consultation

That’s right! Look into the credentials of prospective cosmetic dentists that you intend to approach. Seek for a consultation appointment only after you do a prerequisite investigation. Some of the essential checklists that you must perform before consultation include:

  • ü  Check to see whether the dentist provides full mouth reconstruction? Are patients referred to other specialists for other treatments as well by the cosmetic dentist?
  • ü  What is the experience of the cosmetic dentist? Do the before and after images of past patients look impressive?
  • ü  Is the practitioner equipped with imaging technology and other extensive aids for superior procedure results? Does he use advanced dental technologies like lasers, detection tools, or even CAD/CAM restoration during the process?
  • ü  Most importantly is he a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD)? Any AACD accredited member has to induce into rigorous studies, qualify through examinations, and have ethical standards to become specialized dental practitioner.

Consultation sessions

After you’ve gone through the selection process of probable cosmetic dentist practitioners and finally chosen the doctor for your smile makeover, come the pivotal stage of consultation. During this session with your doctor, discuss what you like and don’t like about your smile and why you want to undergo a smile improvement procedure? For a patient and a cosmetic dentist this is a crucial session where you get to know about the realistic expectations regarding your dental treatment.

Your cosmetic dentist may also refer to some before and after photos and smile design books to help you understand the extent of the makeover. A review of the various tooth sizes and shapes will be provided to see what best suits your look and appeals to you.

The best part is that most advanced cosmetic dentists use computer monitors so your doctor will be able to review your smile tooth by tooth. It is also a good way to understand what changes can be made and how.

The result of the procedure will of course vary on the expertise of the cosmetic dentist you choose. However, with careful research and insight you will get to know what to expect of the outcome. In fact, a reliable professional in the field will be able to match the results according to what was discussed beforehand.

Case studies and records

Record of your dental health is vital during consultation with your cosmetic dentist. These documents will aid in developing a cosmetic dental treatment plan suited to your needs. It includes a comprehensive intra-oral examination – x-rays, photos, and teeth impressions.

Diagnosis and treatment

As a patient ensure that you understand completely about the diagnosis and treatment plan during your consultation discussion with the doctor. This also includes having a clear understanding of any treatment alternatives.

Look into every detail and the perspectives provided to you by the cosmetic dentist to be able to make an informed decision on what dental treatment to avail.

Costs and pricing

Discuss about the payment or financing options, which might be done with the dentist office manager.

Analysis of the costs involved will help you to manage the expenses of the cosmetic dentistry treatment. Dental insurances typically do not provide coverage for cosmetic dental treatments. Certain dental clinics may also offer in-house payment facilities. Look into the various payment provisions available to ascertain the pricing involved.

Dangers of Sleep Apnea

Sleep apnea is a serious condition and I should know because I have suffered with it for years.  I cannot tell you the number of health problems I have as a result of sleep apnea.  Most can be reversed however, if you can get a handle on it by complying with treatment.

Now this is easier said than done for some.  Many of those that have been diagnosed are not compliant with treatment because they cannot seem to be able to wear the CPAP for one reason or another.  Some complain it is loud and others say it is the mask they uncomfortable with.  No matter what the reason for not complying, the simple fact is that if your sleep apnea is untreated, you are headed down a road that will get more difficult to get off of.

Sleep apnea causes several different health risk and some even lead to death.  It can cause or make high blood pressure worse, cause heart attack, cause or worsen obesity, cause or worsen diabetes, put strain on the cardio vascular system and more.  This is very serious if left untreated.  Not to mention the huge medical expense down the road.

Listen, take it from some one that knows.  You do not want to let this serious condition continue in your life.

I was glad when I got my CPAP.  I can literally say it saved my life.  But for those that want wear one, they continue on in misery as a result.  However, I have good news for those that cannot wear the CPAP.  There is a new device that is custom fit to your mouth that is simple, comfortable and definitely cost effective most people.  It is called a "mandibular advancement device" or MAD for short.  It very gently eases the lower jaw forward to open your airway when you sleep.

Now, please don't confuse this with the boil and bite devices that rarely work that you see on TV.  This is not the same.  This device is custom fit to you by a certified dental sleep doctor and is adjusted for you to get the best results.

Many who try the device sleep soundly the first night all night long.  They don't get up for multiple trips to the bathroom and the daytime sleepiness goes away.  The fatigue leaves.  The blood pressure normalizes.  And why?  All because the sleep apnea finally gets treated.

I have been working with dentist for a long time and I was excited to hear about an alternative treatment to the CPAP that is FDA approved and just about anyone can wear.  I have compiled a list of websites of dentist in Texas and Louisiana that practice dental sleep medicine and can help you with these breakthrough sleep apnea treatment.

Here is a list of a few doctors:
These doctors can really help you and if you don't see one close to where you live, call us at our office at 337-303-2841 for more information.  I would love to help you get your life back and get a good nights sleep also.
